The choice of the public transport to reach Naples really depends on your needs and with who you are travelling with. If you are continuing your holiday in Italy to Venice, Florence or Rome with Italo or Trenitalia (high speed trains), getting the train from Sorrento can be a really good alternative for you.

In fact, all you have to do is reach Cirumvesuviana line or Campania Express and take the direct train from Sorrento to Naples.

Let’s see together.

Circumvesuviana train

The circumvesuviana is the local train that connects all the cities between Sorrento and Naples. It is the very old and slow commuter train: the journey to reach the city of Naples takes about one hour and a half and Porta Nolana is the final stop on the line. If you are travelling with big luggage expect to stand for the entire journey, the train does not have areas to store your luggage.

The first train is at 6.09 AM and the last is at 9.47 PM, trains run every 30 minutes and a one way ticket costs € 4,90 per person. The ticket can be easily bought at the station’s ticket office without having to prebook; credit cards are not accepted.

One of the questions I hear most about the circumvesuviana is:

Is the train safe?

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding_last_edited=”on|desktop” admin_label=”Testo normale” _builder_version=”3.25″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” custom_padding=”15px||15px|” custom_padding_tablet=”” custom_padding_phone=”” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.25″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Testo normale” _builder_version=”4.5.7″ text_font=”||||||||” text_orientation=”justified” global_colors_info=”{}”]

The circumvesuviana train has a very poor reputation due to its delays, strikes and old system badly maintained. Honestly, I don’t recommend it as it is not a pleasant experience: I took the circumvesuviana train dozens of times to get from Sorrento to Naples and I felt very uncomfortable. I have never been robbed, but I had to be aware and alert. There’s nothing in particular to fear from this train, the worst risk is pickpockets. Wear your money belt and use a neck wallet, any valuables need to be stored securely, not in pockets. The train, does get very crowded, especially in the Summer months and when it’s hot the air conditioning consists of opening the windows. Avoid at rush hour if you don’t want to be packed like sardines.
